The Grand Canyon

I made a one week trip to Las Vegas in September and I also took the time to visit the Grand Canyon.

The weather was absolutely horrible … we had a huge hailstorm waiting for us at the Canyon and there was a real danger of being struck by lightning. So we stayed in the van for quite some time until the sky cleared up a bit.

Besides the absolutely spectacular view, our patience was rewarded with some nice rainbows and mist – things you don’t see too often at the Grand Canyon.

Naturally, I took some photographs. Here are some examples:

Standing on the rim of the Grand Canyon, it hurt that I sold my wide-angle lens … :(

What’s new?

Hi folks,

it’s been a while since I last updated this blog but renovating my new flat took way more time (and money) as planned.

Therefore I had to sell my Tokina 11-16mm lens. I never had a chance to really use it and since it was only gathering dust, I thought it would be better to sell it and use the money for my flat.

Good news is that my flat is finally nearing completion. If everything works as planned, the work should be done by the end of the month.

And then, I’ll hopefully find more time to take photographs again. Two weeks ago, I had a free day and shot some macros. I’ll show you one in the next posting.

This is a picture I took in 2009. It was shot in Barcelona, Spain.

The picture was taken with my Canon EOS 450D and my Canon EFS 18-200 f/3.5-5.6 IS lens. Shutter speed was 1/800 second, Aperture was f/5.6 while focal length and ISO were 200. Postprocessing was done in Adobe Lightroom.

Desktop Wallpaper: Flower

Yesterday night, a friend of mine inspired me to use one of my older pictures to create a desktop background. So here it is :)

The original size is 1920×1200 (16:10) – you get it with a single click on the small version.

There wasn’t a lot of post processing involved in this picture. I just used the “Direct Positive” Preset in Lightroom.

New server

Hi folks,

it’s been a while since you read any new post on this blog. I had very little freetime during the last weeks so I wasn’t able to take some photographs – in fact, I haven’t even used my new lens yet :(

Besides that, my webhoster moved to a new server. Performance should be better now but there were a few problems in the beginning. If you were unable to reach the blog, the migration to the new server may be the reason why.

Winter kicked in and we even got some snow. Perfect conditions for some wonderful photographs … but as I said, I’m very occupied right now and I don’t know if I’ll be able to spend some time with my camera for the rest of 2010. Anyhow, stay tuned because new pictures will follow sooner or later :)

New lens

I bought myself a new lens – the Tokina AT-X 116 Pro DX AF 11-16mm f/2.8. I wanted to buy a wide angle lens before my Hawaii trip but I couldn’t decide on a specific model. But now, the decision is made and I’m sure, I won’t regret it. The lens got some very promising reviews on different websites/blogs and some friends recommended it wholeheartedly. F/2.8 is a nice thing to have and besides that, the lens has the reputation to take really tack sharp pictures. And I got a pretty good deal at an online store and even scored a free UV-filter – yay!

I’ll make sure to take some test pictures with this baby in the near future.

This picture was shot with a Canon EOS 450D and a Canon EFS 18-200 f/3.5-5.6 IS lens. Shutter speed was at 1/320 second with an aperture from F/20. Focal length was 190mm while the ISO speed was set to 400.
